1. Check legal requirements
1.5/y before
The first step in planning your destination wedding is to familiarize yourself with the legal requirements of the country where you intend to marry. Each destination has its own set of regulations and paperwork, so it's crucial to research and understand what is required. This may include obtaining marriage licenses, residency requirements, and other documentation. This is our guide to legal requirements to get married in Italy.
2. Choose the right season
1/y before
Selecting the right season for your destination wedding is key to ensuring favorable weather conditions and availability of venues and vendors. Consider factors such as peak tourist season, weather patterns, and local holidays when choosing your wedding date, specially if you plan to marry in city centers and touristic small villages. Don't under estimate December, such a romantic month, particulary if you are keen to get married in the Alps!
Consult our guide to determine the best month for your dream to happen.
3. Choose an area
1/y before
Whether you envision saying "I do" on a sandy beach, in a vineyard, or in a historic castle, there are endless options to suit every couple's taste and style. Consider factors such as your guests departure airport and layovers, transfer options, close-by attractions and last but not least - the mood you'd like to give to your special days! Italy has it all: beaches, countryside, historical cities, mountain villages, cities by the sea, by the mountains, immersed in the hills of Tuscany...
4. Select the perfect venue
1/y before
Once you've chosen a month for your special day, it's time to select the perfect venue. Whether you envision saying "I do" on a sandy beach, in a vineyard, or in a historic castle, there are endless options to suit every couple's taste and style. Research potential venues, schedule site visits, and consider factors such as capacity, amenities, and ambiance before making your decision.
Insider tip: when choosing a date, consider factors such as local holidays (that may increase the price of the date: in Italy May 1st, November 2nd and more...) and consider mid-week dates, usually offered at lower rates (especially if your guest come from overseas, will be on vacation for longer and won't mind attending the wedding in a mid-week or weekend date).
For point two to point four, this guide is your way to go!
4. Now choose your vendors
8/6 months before
Don't be in a rush to choose vendors like photographer, music, make up or even wedding planner before you've decided on an area and - that's an insider tip - the venue. Unless you have an 'either this or nothing' approach to one of these vendors, usually more than often is more convenient to go with suggested vendors from the venue - they're usually familiar with the place, know what looks best where, and have the trust of the venue, and trust us - that's not a small thing.
But, that's not the only option. With the venue secured, it's time to start selecting vendors whether they're suggested or not o bring your wedding vision to life. From photographers and florists to caterers and musicians, choosing the right vendors is crucial to ensuring a successful and memorable event. Research local vendors, read reviews, and schedule consultations to find the perfect team to make your dream wedding a reality.
Make sure to have a clear idea before choosing your vendors, it will help bringing your vision to life if the vendor you selected knows what YOU want!
5. Send Invitations and Hotel Recommendations/Activities to Guests
6 months before + 2 weeks before
Once the major details of your wedding are in place, and the venue is booked, it's time to send out invitations to your guests. Include information such as the date, time, and location of the wedding, as well as any additional events or activities planned during the wedding weekend (don't stress out - if not ready yet, you can do this at a different time, more close to the date).
